Communications Centre

Local Government Emergency Services (by Website Designers)

Operation

The center acts as a clearing house for emergency calls and employs a computer aided dispatch system that correlates the caller's number, address guide and location before being actioned. The Call Taker determines the degree of the emergency.

Cellular Phones

Reporting incidents from cellphones enables emergency personnel to be at the scene very quickly but the call does not provide any information about the caller's location. Therefore, be prepared to give information of freeway exits, landmarks etc. when you call.

Dispatchers

The dispatchers can provide assistance with the following: CPR, rescue breathing, childbirth, choking and controlling bleeding.

Visibility

Make sure that your property is easily identifiable from both directions and has its street number visible at the front.

What to Say

Give the telephone number from which you are calling, the address of the problem and the nature of the problem. Call the Centre to report any emergency - car accident, fire, a crime, power line down, drowning or difficulty in breathing are examples. When in doubt, phone!

Do NOT telephone for the following: to complain about loud music, animals up trees, to ask directions, to ask about severe weather, to report water or electricity out or to check if a police report is ready.
