Amatikulu Nature Reserve

Tourism and Accommodation in Natal (by Website Designers)

This coastal reserve straddles the mouths of two rivers - the Amatikulu and the Inyoni. It is undeveloped in terms of accommodation but fisherman and canoeists are attracted to the unspoilt coastline.

It is one of the few areas in South Africa where wildlife can be viewed feeding on forested dunes. There are plans to expand the reserve. The topography includes coastal swamp forest, dune forest and grassland.

Animals include giraffe, impala, monkeys, mongoose, zebra and clawless otters. There is fishing both at the sea and on the river and canoeing and boating are available.

Zangozolo tented Camp is built on wooden platforms overlooking the Amatikulu River with views also over the sea. There are ablution blocks with hot and cold showers and trained cooks are available to cook meals.
