Assessing Web Designer Quotations
The Web Design Minefield

- How can I assess web designers quickly?
- Look in Ananzi or Google and use keywords such as 'web designers' and perhaps a geographic location. Look at the designer's site. If that is not appealing and is slow and/or confusing, chances are that his sites will be too. Remember that his design may be affected by his clients. Go to his clients page and see some of his sites.
- What is the total cost?
- Both you and your designer must know what you're paying for before site creation starts. Our Do It Yourself Estimate page helps you organize your thoughts and will give you a good idea of the fees associated with your site.
- How long will it take?
- With a positive working relationship, and prompt response from you, your site should be on-line within 15 working days, including the time to register your Websitename. We will post your site to a temporary location where you can view it at your leisure. For an extra charge, we can get sites up within 48 hours.
- Will my Websitebe promoted?
- If search engines cannot find you, neither can your customers. Ask how your site will be promoted. There is a lot more to promotion than registering with search engines.
- How will my Websitebe updated?
- Ask your developer how much it will cost to update your site regularly. Like developing your site, don’t accept an answer like,“How long is a piece of string”. They should provide a set price for updating the key areas of your site.
- What are the designers' skills in Web Content Editing?
- Content Editing means that the information on your site is understood quickly and clearly. If they don’t have this expertise, it’s difficult for them to advise what is good and what doesn’t communicate. The quality of content will make or break any web site.
- Will my site be constructed so it can be updated easily?
- There is a wide range of methods used to create web sites. Some sites can only be updated using the exact software originally used. We hand code the HTML for easy change. We can provide a Content Management System that will enable you to update areas of your site through your web browser.
- Will my site be backed up and files made secure?
- You’ll want to make sure that once you’ve invested in the site development, that all is not lost because of some misfortune. Make sure that there is a backup copy of your site that is not stored on the Internet, and that the developer provides adequate security for your files.
- Will I have access to site measurement figures?
- So you can track how many people are visiting your site, and what they are interested in, you’ll want access to site measurement figures. We offer a server log analysis at quarterly intervals.
